Newsgroups in Netscape Messenger
(Part of Netscape Communicator version 4.7)
(Note: These instructions were written for
Netscape Communicator version 4.7. If your version is different, you may
have to interpret these instructions for your version. Although the
methodology used to do this may vary, the information you need to input
remains the same no matter what news program you may be using.)
Configuration Information
- Start Netscape Messenger.
- Go to Edit | Preferences. Click on the
‘+’ next to the Mail & Groups line to expand the tree.
- Then click on ‘Newsgroup Servers’.
Click ‘Add…’.
- In the ‘Server’ field, type in news.aspi.net.
- Then click ‘OK’.
- That is all that is required to set up
access to newsgroups.
- Click OK.
Subscribing to Newsgroups
- If this is your first time running this
program, you’ll need to download the list of available newsgroups from
our server. Be aware that there are tens of thousands of groups, and
downloading the list may take anywhere from a few minutes on up,
depending on the speed of your connection.
- Go to File | Subscribe. The program will
automatically download the list of newsgroups.
- After it is finished, you can click on
any group name, then click Subscribe.
- You can subscribe to as many as you
want.
- Click OK.
- Double-clicking on the newsgroup’s
name will download and list the article headers.
Reading Newsgroups
- After subscribing to a newsgroup, the
newsgroup’s name will appear in the left frame of the program.
- Click on the name of the newsgroup you
want to read. It will download the list of message headers.
- You can read individual messages by
clicking on the header.
